We hit the ground running in Darwin

Early in our trip we met up with the Director of Great Australian Doorstep, Sheree Everitt. Sheree asked if we would do a small interview for the show. We agreed and the interview airs on the 20th August at 5.00pm on seven 2.

A big G'day to our friends Steven & Andrew Varga, we are still having a great trip. We look forward to seeing you guys when we return. ( Jackson & Harry) We really enjoy your comments on the blog.

Edith & John - Great to hear that you enjoy the pictures we are posting.
Hopefully the weather is warming up for you in Fairymeadow.
Toni and Greg sent a comment and informed us of their great adventure- riding the length and breadth of the UK. A huge effort. We look forward to checking out their next biking adventure.

Camp Tip #2.

When checking into van parks, haggle with the office staff as they always slug families with kids. We have encountered a variety of places that try and charge between $5 - $15 per child, per night.

We are using Darwin as a base to get our windscreen repaired as we have a massive crack in it. Checking all our gear for the next leg.

Crocosaurus Cove
- A commercial inner city crocodile centre.
These beasts varied between 4.5 - 5.8 metres and weighed between 700kg - 840kg.
They are MASSIVE.

Some punters pay $$$ to go into the cage of death, to get a close up look at the crocs.
The guy on top of the cage feeds and coaxes the croc towards the cage.

Harry and Jackson feed the juvenile crocs.

This little guy was itching to get away.

After feeding the juvenile crocs , the boys decide to swim with them.
They were well fed during feeding time.........shouldn't be a worry??????

The Darwin City Top Deck Bus Tour.

Who should we meet? - Our good friends Bruce, Dianne and Pauline, all from the Gong.

The tour took us to Fannie Bay Gaol, The Museum, Charles Darwin National Park,Cullen Bay and a variety of other landmarks in Darwin. These tours are great to assist with getting your bearings and the guide had a wealth of Darwin knowledge to share.

Fannie Bay Gaol.

Darwin Harbour.

Gilligan?????

The Sun Princess berths at the city wharf.

Views from Lookout point at Charles Darwin National Park.

The waterfront precinct is home top a fancy shopping complex complete with wave pool and lagoon. We took on the wave pool on two occasions, the temperature has been in the 30's constantly, hard to believe it's winter.??????

Mindil Beach during the Sunday evening markets.
We caught up with our relatives Jacob and Emma, it was terrific to spend some time with them.

Every campsite brings a new adventure.

We met our Swiss buddies at Howard Springs Caravan Park.
This lovely family has made 3 visits to Australia and just can't get enough of the place.
Markus and Monika were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary so we invited them over for a special BBQ, we cooked up some huge Tiger Prawn Skewers, Barramundi fillets, cold prawns, the size of your forearm. Then a BBQ'd mudcrab. All washed down with some nice wine, this topped their trip off and they vowed to become mudcrab importers in Switzerland.

Sarah, Patrick. Monika and Markus we hope you enjoyed your stay and had an enjoyable flight home.

The Aviation Museum.
Home to a B-52 bomber.
The more we look, the more we find out, just....how much cool history we have in this country.

The B52 flew non stop around the globe during the cold war, refuelling in mid air to keep the Russians guessing.

The suburb named after the famous Figtree P.S infant teacher.

Cullen Bay is quite an affluent marina suburb.
If you  ever get here, gentlemen please go to the Buzz Cafe to go to the loo.
( and the menu looked quite good)
When doing a number 1 at the urinal, the whole toilet is made of glass that you can see out of, however, thankfully the patrons can't see into. (a two way glass) This was hilarious as it seemed like all patrons could see us doing our business.

Darwin is very much family friendly.
Not only do they have an awesome wave pool for $12 a family, they also have a free watersliide park.

Harry and Dad make a splash.

We look forward to our next adventure as we leave Darwin tomorrow and head for Kakadu.
