Lake Argyle

This trip will take us from Kununurra to Lake Argyle and then on to Katherine.

The latest data states that The Lake is 42 times larger than Sydney Harbours Volume. This is due to an unbelievable wet season which saw the water level at 9m above the spillway. This continues to spill over at 3 metres above the spillway.

The lake is 70 kilometres by 50 kilometres. MASSIVE.

The Ord River at the base of the Dam.

The Lake Argyle Infinity Pool.

A morning trek to the Durack Homestead. This family were pioneers in these parts and they played a huge part in establishing the area. The Homestead was moved, as the Lake would have covered the house and most of the station.

The bikes needed a much deserved clean up.

Agile Rock Wallabies are in abundance.

Remember this guy when you look at the swimming photos later.
There are 25,000 of these little critters in the Lake.

Tje sunset cruise ends with a few nibbles and a drink after a terrific tour. However, to gain your drink at the end of the trip, you need to jump in the Lake. We decided to forego our drink,
then we got thirsty............

...............and in we went.

Which of these is more pleasing on the eye?

Another trek to visit a different view point.

A small freshwater crocodile chasing his/her breakfast.

Jabiru.

The spillway carries water throughout the year.
This water heads for the Ord River and some ids diverted for irrigation.

After leaving Lake Argyle we head for The Victoria River Roadhouse for an overnight stay.

We are then heading to Katherine to meet up with our good buddies , the Vitelli family.

Fishing for Barra and watching for Crocs.

We head into the Northern Territory at a nice speed.
