Airlie Beach - Yeppoon. -

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We spent this week dodging the ferocious weather that South - East Queensland received.
Through sheer good fortune we missed the heavy stuff (hail etc.) and received
a spray that took the dusty coat from the caravan.

We met another family travelling around this Great country.
The George family from Victoria were great company and they had two terrific kids,
the same age as Jackson and Harry.
Ben and Max, along with Jackson and Harry formed a formidable troupe
riding their bikes around the campsites.

Sunday afternoon we gathered around the Johnson's RV to watch the rugby.
The Johnson family are die hard All Black supporters.
We had a sunday roast for lunch and dinner, the meal was absolutely fantastic, all cooked on the BBQ's.

Unfortunately, we had to sit through a totally dominant display from the All Blacks and watch the overwhelmed Wallabies give it their best on the night.
Luckily, the Johnson's are great sports and didn't rub it in too much.!!!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a visit to the Sarina sugar mill.

This was a very informative tour and we were  fortunate to have Robin as our guide. Robin was a former sugarcane worker, who used to cut the cane by hand.
Boy, hasn't he seen some changes through the years.

The Sarina mill has a miniature mill for the tourists to visit .

 Mmmmmmmmmm, tastes fantastic.

Butterscotch shnapps and some cooking sauces.

All products made here at the sugar mill.

The sugar cane is a awesome plant , as they can use every part of it to make something.

Sugar, alcohol, sauces, ethanol for fuel.
Steam from the mill's boilers, is the only product not re-used in the process.
What at terrific product - sugar.

Camila Beach, we were smashed by midgees and mosquitos here.

A bit of night fishing with the George family.

The tide goes along way out.

The road signs into Rockhampton were quirky.

Yeppoon, a much needed stopover to get our van back in order.

This was a cool 4WD trip over some difficult terrain.
Tyres were down to 20 PSI and we trekked to some cool places.

 Nine mile beach.

5 Rocks Beach.

Karen's cafe is open for lunch!!!!

We head to a small coastal town called seventeen seventy for the next adventure.
